Lyric Analysis: Eat That Up, It's Good For You - TDCC

_________________________________________________________________

You would look a little better, don't you know?
If you just wore less make-up

As an audience, without even watching the music video we instantly can recognise that this song is about addressing the issues that the person singing has. I think that you instantly get the impression that the song is about a relationship and the deterioration of a romance, from the male participants point of view.

But it's hard to realize when you're sky high
Fighting off the spaceships

The male from whom this song's perspective is written from is not holding back. 'It's hard to realise when you're sky high' suggests that the woman is not down-to-earth and in touch with reality, she is too self-absorbed in her looks and being something un-natural.

And so you're drinking in your room to make it all go

This line introduces a different aspect on the previous lines. It suggests that the female has a troubled life, so troubled that the only way she feels as if she can fix it is to drink alcohol.

It didn't end too soon, you've got the next one

You're holding on too long, you've gotta let go
Your other love is gone and you know

This suggests that this male might be better off without her or that the relationship was no good for her. possibly because of the issued raised earlier about her being self-absorbed and 'sky high' 'You've got the next one' shows the anger that the male is experiencing. It's saying that it doesn't matter because she'll just move onto the next guy in the line; possibly suggesting that her feelings weren't all sincere. 'You're holding on too long' maybe suggests that she is holding onto feelings that aren't really there to protect him and now he's telling her how it is.

It's too late, it's too late
You've got another one coming and it's gonna be the same
It's too late, it's too late
You've got another one coming and it's gonna be the same

'It's too late' is a lyric repeated several times and I think it is key to understanding the narrative of this song. He is saying it's too late to save their relationship, and 'you've got another one coming' ties in with the earlier lyric 'you've got the next one' suggesting maybe she didn't treat him right and he knows that he won't be the last, showing doubt in the idea that she may change from this experience.

I tried to find a quiet place that we could go
To help you make decisions

Re-itterates the fact that he put his all into this relationship and over-coming any problems.

But I didn't find it easy to tell them apart
With double vision
And so you're drinking in your room to make it all go
It didn't end too soon, you've got the next one

'You're drinking in your room to make it all go' could suggest that she's reacted badly to him confronting her and the mistakes that she has made in the relationship.

You're holding on too long, you've gotta let go
Your other love is gone and you know
It's too late, it's too late
You've got another one coming and it's gonna be the same
It's too late, it's too late
You've got another one coming and it's gonna be the same
It's too late, it's too late
You've got another one coming and it's gonna be the same
It's too late, it's too late
You've got another one coming and it's gonna be the

'It's not the same, You've got another love coming and it's going to be the same' is a lyric repeated again and again frequently throughout the song and so our attention is drawn to it. He's doubting that she will miss what they had because she'll just move onto the next one. At this point i think the earlier reference to being 'sky high' could mean that she cant see how lucky she is to have this boy now and is searching for something more.

It's not the same, it's not the same
It's not the same, you're gonna tell me that I'm right

'It's not the same' suggests this relationship has evolved into something un-enjoyable. He is saying here that inevitably he knows that he is right 'you're going to tell me that I'm right' He is predicting how she will react to this break-up and knows all her tricks to try an keep him telling him that he's right just to please him.

You know, you're gonna come back down
And find yourself where you are again

This suggests that he thinks this break-up will bring her back down to reality one day and find her true self; possibly the girl he loved initially.

You didn't know, you didn't know
You didn't know, so don't pretend you saw it now

'You didn't know, so don't pretend you saw it now' suggests that he knows she will say she was aware of her problems and their relationship problems so she doesn't appear in the wrong or in a negative light when in fact she was oblivious to it all.

It's not something you'd want to happen
Now you know who you are again

This indicates that in the future the girl will be bought back down to earth and realise what she actually had right in front of her, and if she had remained her old true self then she wouldn't have wanted to lose this boy and would've done anything to save the relationship, but at the moment she can't see it.

It's not the same, it's not the same
It's not the same, you're gonna tell me that I'm right
You know, you're gonna come back down
Find yourself where you are again

However it's not the same and it's too late. The end lyrics suggest that he has ended their relationship or is still contemplating what would happen and this is an elaboration of his thought process. However, I think that he has ended it and is waiting for her to come back down to reality and see the good relationship with a boy who cared for her that she gave up through being so self-absorbed. The lyrics themselves tell an entire story and this idea of a de-teriorating relationship is portrayed in the music video.
